E-mail Page
Return to Home Page
I have been asked several questions about e-mail lately.
The result was that I thought I would do an e-mail page.
Every internet service provider (ISP) provides you with an email address.
This is composed of your login name followed by an '@' followed by your service providers address.
Accessing your e-mail is browser dependent.
I find that Netscape provides a more intuitive set up for mail than does Microsoft Internet Explorer (MIE).
Your options include using a generic e-mail such as Endora.
In addition to ISP e-mail there are services on the net which you can use.
I have included a complete listing of these in the table of links.
Any e-mail should include:
|
- An address book with nick names.
- Provision for attachments. Better if it can do multiple attachments.
- Mail list construction.
- Ability to cut and paste.
- Spell checking.
|
I actually do not compose in my e-mail editor unless it is a short reply.
I normally use my word processor to compose in and then cut and paste to my e-mail editor.
The newer e-mail editors will allow paragraph dragging but the earlier ones did not.

| Address Magic |
I use two e-mail programs. Keeping the address books synchronized is a real pain.
Using this program make that job a piece of cake. |
| Netscape Setup Screens |
| Netscape Identity |
First Netscape setup screen. Information about yourself. |
| Netscape Messages |
Second Netscape setup screen. Information about how your message is composed and saved. |
| Netscape Mail Server |
Third Netscape setup screen. Information about your ISP incoming and outgoing mail account.
If you are using Netscape on a 'Library' or 'Computer Lab' you can make changes here and read
your mail. Don't forget to ERASE these changes when you are done at the 'Library'.

| ICQ E-mail Alert |
ICQ E-mail set up screen. This will allow incoming e-mail alerts. |
| Passwords |
My Netscape forgot the password and I had to enter it every time.
How annoying. The fix is:
- Launch Netscape mail.
- Edit | Preferences | Mail Servers | Highlight service if more than one | Edit button | Check the Remember password box.
- Press the okay buttons.

The MAILTO: command can do more than enter a single e-mail address in the "Send To" field while activating your e-mail program. Outlook 97 for Windows problem was corrected in Microsoft Outlook 97 version 8.02.
