64 bit based systems from Intel have finally arrived. Tyan came out with a new motherboard as their top of the line workstation Personal Computer. The Toledo includes on board LAN, video, audio as well as (4)USB2.0 and (2)FireWire ports. This decreases the number of add in cards required. I am currently running a Tomcat i915 (S5120) with no add-in cards. This reduces overall system cost.Construction will start in October of 2006.
The reason is simple: Windows Vista as an operating system. Backward: This system must be backwards compatable to Windows XP.

If your Windows suddenly stops working and your system give you a black screen and then shuts down. Try starting in safe mode. If you can get all the way up in safe mode but not in safe mode with network then your onboard LAN adapter may have failed.
Turn off the onboard LAN adapter and install a network adaptor card. On rebooting Windows will find the changes and install the adapter card.
I used a VIA Network Velocity Family Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. This works with both Vista RC-1 64bit and 32bit versions.
The 3COM Ethernet Adapter works well for 32bit Vista Ultimate.
The GA311 works with winXP, winV32 and winV64. You must have the onboard lan adapter set to off in the rom-bios. You may have to unplug the cable on a power off reset. |
